Lents Community Pre-Election Assembly

6:30 PM August 30, 2018 – Asian Health and Service Center

9035 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR

Ever wonder what the heck are these Neighborhood Associations? What is the Lents Neighborhood Association Board, and what do I need to know to decide whether to run for office in the upcoming election September 25th?

The Lents Neighborhood Association invites the community to bring your questions and curiosity to our informational event, August 30, 2018 at 6:30 PM. We will meet at the new Asian Health and Service Center, 9035 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR. Paul Leistner, Neighborhood Program Coordinator for the City’s Office of Community & Civic Life, will share with us his experience and knowledge, including but not limited to:

  • History and development of the LNA;
  • What it has been and what it could be;
  • Opportunities, resources and limitations of being a city-linked association;
  • the LNA Board;
  • Info to make smart decisions about running for an open board position at the Annual Meeting on September 25th.

It’s time for all of us to come together to learn the nitty gritty about our Neighborhood Association and how each of us can contribute to livability in Lents and progress via the LNA. We encourage all LNA members who care about the well-being of Lents to join your neighbors at this meeting.

We now have a newsletter!

We now have a newsletter that we’ll be sending out twice a month: once right after a General Membership Meeting (to recap major decisions/action items, approved minutes, and committee reports) and a second time ahead of the next General Membership Meeting, to share draft minutes from the previous meeting and agenda for future one.

Dear Lents community,

The 4th Tuesday of every month is typically when we host our General Meetings, starting at 7 PM. This time, we’d like to do it a little differently: let’s meet an hour early, starting at 6 PM, to share a warm meal with our neighbors and get to know each other better!

Our meetings are usually about LNA business, and they tend to be packed with agenda items. But this hour before the meeting is meant to be packed with good conversation and delicious food.

In preparation for the event, think of something that you might like to share about yourself with your neighbors. Do you have a special family tradition? A cool project that you’re working on? Something that you’re passionate about?

We look forward to getting to know you better!

Please RSVP so that we order enough food for everyone.

Know a neighbor with a “can-do” disposition that wants to tackle community based projects?

Nominate them to serve on the Lents Neighborhood Association Board! The current positions open are:

Chair – Facilitates meetings, coordinates with guest speakers, prepares agendas and assists other board members in achieving the shared goals of the LNA.

Land Use Chair – Monitors Land-use cases in the neighborhood and helps nearby neighbors respond to Land-use cases. Helps neighbors connect with and learn about larger city issues concerning land-use and the built environment.  Coordinates with BDS, BPS and Metro to ensure that neighbors are able to provide feedback on issues of land-use.

Transportation Chair – Keeps track of transportation planning issues and projects that impact Lents. Coordinates with ODOT, PBOT, Metro and TriMet to ensure that neighbors are able to provide feedback on issues of transportation.

At-Large – The “Choose your own Adventure” position. At-Large board members take on special projects. In the past, they’ve tackled organizing neighborhood clean-ups, organizing town hall events, doing membership outreach, and coordinating with other local groups like Parent Teacher Associations.

If you know anyone who would be a great LNA board member – nominate them! Or send them this LNA Candidate Form so they can self-nominate!
